LAS VEGAS – Washington men’s golf finished the Southern Highlands Collegiate with a seventh-place finish at 7-over (871). The Dawgs posted a final round of 9-over (297) at the Southern Highlands Golf Club.
“Overall, it was a bit of a disappointing day as we slipped from third to seventh on the leaderboard,” head coach Alan Murray said. “Really strong field and good teams around us so if you don’t play great then you will get passed. Seventh in this field is still a solid showing and highlights that we are continuing to improve. We leave here really disappointed with 7th and that’s a really good thing.”
The Dawgs came into the tournament as the second lowest-ranked team in the field (No. 35), but finished ahead of the No. 8, No. 19, No. 25, No. 29, No. 31, No. 33 and No. 34 squads.
“We putted extremely poorly today, and it was a noticeable difference between us and the teams we played with,” Murray said. “We dropped far too many shots in the final two rounds, and this is something we will continue to work on. We learned a valuable lesson this week as many of our dropped shots were from good positions.”
Finn Koelle posted his first Top 10 finish of the season after his final round 71 (-1). He finished the tournament at 4-under (212) to place in a tie for seventh. His 212 tournament score is his best since the 2025 Western Intercollegiate when he posted a 205 (-5).
“Great tournament by Finn and he is getting back to his best,” Murray added. “He will take great confidence from that.”
Freshman Grady Millar had his second Top 20 placement of the season at 1-over (217) with his final round 75 (+3).
“Grady played solid this week and top 20 in this field is good,” Murray stated.
Jack Murphy also posted a final round 75 to end the weekend at 10-over. Freshman Emil Herstad had a final round 76 (+4) to place in a tie for 42nd. Jacob Goode rounded out the lineup with an 11-over to end in a tie for 57th.
Washington will be back on the course March 9-10 at The Desimone Invitational hosted by Cal at Lake Merced Golf Course in Daly City, Calif.
“We have a pretty quick turnaround before we leave for our next tournament at the weekend,” Murray concluded.
