There’s an upper limit on scoring in NBA basketball, and that upper limit is why no one could score 50 points in today’s game, and it also holds a key to mastering offense: The best players don’t dominate by scoring more.

  1. Kobe is the guy that I think would actually average 50 today. Put him in the Nets and he might just shoot 50 times per game because he won't be trusting any of the "bums" on the team, triple team be damned.

  2. i think u ddnt watch kobe score in 2005-2007 .. average 35+ per game and the game is 80-90 max.. its not about defense.. its about the will to score..

  3. Title and beginning of video talks about scoring 50 (points). Then the argument shifts to why no one can score 50% of a team's points.
That is a sleight of hand both unnecessary (overall argument/logic is sound) and annoying (it's cheating, which I didn't expect from Ben)

  4. Wait, so you guys actually believe this guy’s opinion over actual basketball LEGENDS?? Jordan would EASILY average 50 today and everyone that’s played at A high level can see it.

  5. The oldheads keep talking about handchecking like that’s actually gonna affect a star player plus literally everyone still uses a hand or forearm on defense still like they’re not calling it like that. Every real hooper knows how to use handchecking against you, especially a shifty hooper. They think “defense isn’t played today” when it’s just harder to play defense and not bc of what they say. It’s harder bc of the spacing, the smartest basketball is played today. They were playing with 2-3 ppl inside the arc like dummies when with the zone defense rule if they had the spacing of today’s game jordan could’ve probably averaged close to 50. The most talented defenders are today it’s way easier to play defense in the past

  6. coz no PLAYER or TEAM now will have ONE player average 30+ FGA + 10FTA, and playing most of 48mins.

  7. Can you make a video on what Kobe said about scoring in Jordan's era vs today: “But for scorers like myself and Carmelo and KD, the rules from the ’80s can be more beneficial for us, because you have to be played straight up. You want to double team; you got to come all the way over. So, for us, I don’t care if you hand check us with three hands. If there’s nobody behind you, you’re not going to stop us. So the zone I think cripples some of the top scorers.”

  8. I think this is whats destroying the game. This toxicity of old players fans and players themselves. Not to mention the unlimited stupidity of pundits like SAS, Skip and other loosers who never understood basketball.

  9. I’ve literally been thinking about this for some weeks💀 I’d always found the wilt averaging 50 stat to be so insane so I decided to go check it out and found out it was while playing about 48 minutes, it’s still crazy to average more points than minutes but it really helped contextualize that whole stat for me

  10. 50% of team's score is a red herring. All you need is 40% of 130 team's point. MJ was already being double and tripple team. He regularly dunked over 2-3. He already was the target of the defence. And defence was at most physical at that time. He would absolutely average 50 now.

But 50 is a ridiculous target. instead of acknowledging that defences got criminalized in todays' nba, you misdirect with 50 points…

  11. So Jordan almost avg 40 at his peak, we don't think that he could get 5 more buckets/fouls a game in a faster pace league where there is no hand checking, he can travel, run into the defense player and push off, turn the ball over, and where he would shoot more 3s as it's ingrained in the game?

Especially if he's on a shit team like Kings or Nets or Hornets (prior to Kon)

He would definitely be able to get 5 more buckets lol

  12. MJ's highest volume scoring seasons were early on in his career happening with a mediocre team around him that basically forced him to chuck. Once the team around him matured he was still a scoring machine but the volume never got quite as absurd.

  13. The real reason it wouldn't happen is because NBA would change defence rules to toughen up defence

  14. A guy that has never played basketball telling pro players none of that matters… ok buddy. This guys is full of shit.

  15. Yeah, 50 is crazy. But a Jordan, Kobe, Iverson, in a non-playoffs team, could approach 40 or more realistically the high 30s (37-38)

  16. 40% of team's score. 1996 bulls would absolutely smash scoring records. 125-130/game easy. That alone would be nearly enough for 50ppg for MJ. And nba refs give free throws like free candy. Nobody could stop MJ in today's nba with it's rules on fouling.
