NEW WILMINGTON, Pa—The Westminster Men’s Golf team will have their first Spring match on March 28th. Last year, they finished 4th overall in the PAC. This year, they are looking to crack the top 3 and take the PAC title. Earlier this week, I got a chance to catch up with three first-years on the team; Matthew Sturchio, Aidan Barker, and Connor Ealy.
I asked Barker how they prepared for the upcoming season although they have no set team practices. Barker responded, “I’d say like… we all have love for the game and no matter what, we find a way to get work in and get better each day. We use the golf simulator often and challenge each other. We want to be the best we can.”
Next, I asked Ealy what the team’s goals for this season are. He responded by telling me, “We want to try and make a push for first in the PAC this spring. We also want to make some of our freshmen more comfortable playing college golf. We are trying to make a title run for the PAC.”
Last, I spoke with Sturchio. I asked him if there is any pressure for them to win the PAC, since the girls won prior. He told me, “Not at all. The girls work very hard and they deserve to win. We want to get to the point where both of our teams are competing at the highest levels. The only way we can do that is by challenging each other and creating strong team bonds off of the course.”
Look for this team to make a deep run in search of a PAC championship.
