  1. There is a major problem with the new system at the toptracer ranges they now have ball compensation that is unrealistic. You should do a video on that matt

  2. Problem with shotscope/arccos etc is they work on total yardage so the stats are wrong from the outset surely ?

  3. Not all 7 irons are created equal

My old 7 iron has probably the loft of a modern 8 or 9 iron.

Different brands tweak the loft so they can say their 7 iron hits the furthest!

Don’t compare! Your body and your club are all need to know

  4. I actually hit it 15 yards further since subscribing to the channel. Sadly that’s 15 yards further right. Always read the fine print folks.

  5. Its simple, You should hit it as far as you can, as long as it is in play, Matt! Because then it's closer to the Hole, right? That's more fun!

  6. Anyone who plays regularly knows their yardages. How accurate is a milesey range finder or a garmin watch? Because thats telling them the distance every shot. Even the golf carts do at some courses and driving ranges all have trackman these days. The data is there to back it up.
I couldn't tell you what other people's yardages are though because A) i don't care and B) i don't measure their shots like i do my own.

  7. I’ve been trying to up my swing speed.
I can get my practice swings up to 105mph and comfortably maintain 100mph but I only hit the ball at around 93mph.

Is that drop off too much or pretty normal?

  8. I now swing to prevent things from hurting. Old sports injuries catching up with me. Play the white tees, keep the ball in play, a sport I can play for another 20 years, this is why I golf.

  9. Distance isnt everything. If You play from the tees that fits Your hcp and even driverlength, and keep the ball in play You dont have to hit it very far.

  10. I can hit my 34* 7 iron 175y. I can hit my friends 29* 7 iron near to 200y. With all these different lofted irons this data is a tad off no? Maybe I'm wrong and shot scope take that into effect.

  11. Different types of irons and up to a seven degree difference in 7 irons today. Then how far and how fast did the club head travel?

  12. Loved this. Average golfer. I am a 3 cap off forward tees and a 9 to 13 cap off the tips. 5 metal and 3 hybrid. . Whats my cap. Its all about distance and proximity to the hole. Whats the missing link. Age. My clubs are great 25 years old. I choose to dump my ego and its the club for the job. If you have a good swing distance is NOT so important. All my rounds I enter stats, yes super important. USGA GHIN. That,s how I shoot my age occasionally and surprise kids who hit it past me by a small wall mart. Play well.

  13. One more thing I would add. Play the tees that are appropriate for your age and skill level. I'm 72, and I always play the forward red tees. Makes the game far more enjoyable for me.

  14. Sorry, but I disagree with several points in the video. We have several greens on my home course where if you hit above the hole, you are guaranteed no better than a 3 putt, as the ball will roll far past the hole on our sloped greens.
Second, I disagree with using carry only on my driver. For those of us who hit low bullets with a draw, total distance is more important than carry distance.

  15. I always keep a great shot in my mind when hitting, but I do usually hit more club because I hate being short.

  16. As with all this type of advice, it is aimed at the wrong 'type' of golf. It is all fine if you play as a professional does, but most don't. Most are relative hackers.
Consequently, what Matt and other professionals regard as 'trouble' in front of the green are not the elements that cause the difficulty for most weekend golfers. However, the deep garbage that often lies just beyond most course greens is the stuff of nightmares!

That comes into consideration when choosing a club. You have to pick the one for the distance a decent shot will go. If you choose one that takes into account your poor strikes and duffs as your hitting distance, you will find yourself 20 yards in that aforementioned crap should you flush it. The idea of being seriously punished for hitting one of your best strikes prevents most players from putting the advice here into practice.

Furthermore, the majority of golfers do not hit the ball well enough to get the spin we see in tournaments. The ball lands on the green and runs, so hitting for a carry distance in the false belief that, somehow, this time you will get a nice bit of 'grab' is foolishly optimistic.

The reality is that these suggestions, along with all other advice, is based on a golfer hitting good shots 90% of the time. Unfortunately, that statistic is in reverse and it is poor strikes 90% of the time. If you play percentage golf, you make decisions based on that poor strike rate.

  17. Definitely agree that carry distances are the solution to better golf. I have been collecting data through shotscope for the last 4 years and realised early on that the total distance wasn't very helpful. The carry is the one you need on each club as for a long time I was hitting the "correct" club according to shotscope into greens but, even when I connected well, I ended up in many green front bunkers. I learned to take an extra club into every green and over time my scoring improved and my Handicap dropped 3 shots. I agree with the distances recorded are correct for the age groups but agree that everyone needs to test their carry distances and know how long each club goes, whether this is by using a "cheap" (compared to others) launch monitor (such as the new shotscope SM1 @ £200) or any driving range that has a launch monitor. You dont have to check every time but its useful to get an idea every once in a while. Great video and very useful information. Keep up the good work.

  18. As I’ve gotten older, max distance with each club means nothing. I can hit my 7 iron 175, but I’m more consistent hitting it 160-165. I can still get my driver over 300+ but I am in the fairway at 275. Distance is for the young ones, control is for us oldies.

  19. I'm not in the least bit interested in how far I should hit each cluo. As n 80yo with some back issues I'm much more focused on how far I do carry with each club. Therefore I try to use local simulator to check my numbers and confirm using an app on my phone when on the course. BTW my 7 iron carries about 110 MTRS (120 ish yards)
