Coming over the top is one of the most common faults in golf — and it’s costing you power, consistency and accuracy.
In this video, I break it down into three simple stages to help you fix it properly and permanently:
1️⃣ Priming the Backswing – Setting the club and body up correctly so you’re not forced into an over-the-top move.
2️⃣ Controlling the Transition – How to start the downswing without throwing the club out and across.
3️⃣ Matching Up the Clubface – The crucial piece that allows everything to work together and produce solid, powerful strikes.
Most golfers try to fix over-the-top at impact — but by then it’s too late. The real solution happens earlier in the swing, and I’ll show you exactly where and how.
If you struggle with:
Pulls
Slices
Weak contact
Loss of distance
This video will help you understand why — and what to do about it.

Thank you, Chris ! This is a terrific explanation and demo of the three components involved in hitting a controlled draw with a driver: the takeaway, the transition and the finish (club face control). Love the way you pointed out the need to connect the three things in order to achieve any consistency with the driver. Will work on it at the range and will post results. My issue is this: the harder/farther I try to drive the ball, the more prone to slicing I get. I need to work on keeping the three components holding together as my speed increases. I want to get that 20-30 extra yards but the effort ends up costing me more in terms of strokes. Thank you for laying out very clearly the reasons behind sliced drives and how to go about addressing them.
Thanks again big man brilliant as always and easy to follow 👍
Chris you’re the best!!
Chris, this is easily one of your top-10 videos. The way that you explained the backswing and transition in a very slow, easy to understand way was very helpful to me. What about fairway woods, long irons, and wedges? Should golfers drop the arms as they begin to rotate their body the same way as the driver?
Thanks for an excellent vid explaining the blending of swingpath and clubface control. Keep up the good work.
Ok, you deserve my attention. This video is very informative. TY.
Never seen this explained this way!!! Can’t wait to hit the range!!!
