Vinamra Anand won the IGU Samarvir Sahi Amateur Golf Championship, which concluded today at Chandigarh Golf Club.

Overnight leader for four consecutive rounds, Uttar Pradesh golfer Vinamra Anand (69-67-73-70) initiated his rounds with a 3-under 69 and 5-under 67 in the first and second rounds respectively. Though he struggled with a 1-over 73 in the third round, he maintained his lead, and played a 2-under 70 in the fourth round. At an overall score of 9-under 279, he won the championship.

Runner-up Kanav Chauhan (73-74-71-67) had an overall score of 3-under 285. Chandigarh golfer Ram Singh Mann (75-73-71-67), finished third with a score of 2-under 286.

The tournament was instituted by GPS Sahi and Meenu Sahi Mamik in the memory of Samarvir Singh Sahi, who was also a golfer. He was groomed at the Chandigarh Golf Club and won many sub-junior and junior events. He received the Jacob Award at Albright College, where he captained the college golf team and was awarded the Best Men’s Golf Trophy. Sahi played with the likes of Jeev Milkha Singh, Harmeet Kahlon

and breathed his last at a young age in November 1994, after battling with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
