Following his recent injuries, Woods said he would have to weigh up whether he could “do it justice” given his current roles, which include involvement with the PGA as well as serving on two boards.

He said, “I’m trying to figure out what we’re trying to do with our tour. That’s been driving me hours upon hours every day and trying to figure out if I can actually do our team, our Team USA and our players and everyone that’s going to be involved in the Ryder Cup, if I can do it justice with my time.

“Serving on two boards and what I’m doing for the PGA Tour, I’m trying to figure out if I can actually do this and serve the people that are involved and serve them at an honourable level.”

Woods was a member of the USA team who played in the 2006 Ryder Cup at the K-Club where he says the group “had a fun week as a team. Unfortunately, we lost” and is hoping for a better result and better weather in 2027.

The decision to hold the 2027 Ryder Cup at the Adare Manor was announced in 2019, and it is believed it could be worth in the region of €160 million to the local economy.
