Playing Red Hawk’s Toughest 9 Holes | What I Didn’t Expect

Located in the Spanish Springs Valley of Sparks, Nevada, Red Hawk Golf Resort features the Lakes Course, a signature Robert Trent Jones Jr. design that opened in 1997. As its name suggests, the course is defined by its integration with natural wetlands, springs, and mature cottonwood trees.
Unlike the resort’s “Hills” course, the Lakes course has minimal elevation changes, making it a more traditional, gently undulating parkland layout that is easy to walk.
The back nine is a par-36 layout that transitions into the more scenic and challenging wetland areas of the property. This stretch is characterized by its parkland feel, frequent water hazards, and strategically placed bunkers. The course features over 100 bunkers, many of which are large and deep, designed to catch errant drives or protect the greens.
Hole 12 (Par 3): A memorable short hole where the green is virtually an island, surrounded by an expansive desert-style waste bunker rather than traditional water hazards.
