The Tumut-Gundagai Shield is in Tumut hands. Gundagai president Gordon Forster and Tumut club captain Stephen Gaul.

Twenty-eight Tumut Golf Club members made the trip over to Gundagai on Sunday to contest the return round of the Tumut versus Gundagai Shield. 

Tumut went into the final leg with a 23.75 stroke lead with the top six scores counting following the first leg in Tumut and held on with a score of 386 to 376.25 at the Gundagai course. 

The overall scores were Tumut 757.5nett, Gundagai 771.5nett which saw Tumut take the shield by 14 strokes. 

Best scores for Tumut- Steve Kell and Paul Booby 62.25, Dean and Ben McDonald 63.75, Steve and Ben Gaul 64 and Jason Brown and Derek Elliott 64.25 

Last Saturday’s Inside Out Homestore pairs competition was played as 4 BBB Aggregate with 43 golfers teeing up. 

The pairing of Bradley Porteous and Braiden Freeman claimed the win on Countback from David Commins and Neil Bye after both teams recorded excellent rounds of 72 points. 

Mark Booby and Ben Wiseman took third place also on countback with 71 points. 

Other prize winners were Dean and Ben McDonald 71, Daniel Vafiopulous and Jason Brown 70, Peter Halpin and Graham Strack 70, Logan Carroll and David Wilde 69, Steve Kell and Paul Booby 68 and Robert Crawford and Darryl Ryan 67. 

Nearest Pins- fourth David Wilde 52cm, ninth Troy Watling 460cm and 17th David Commins 52cm. 

Sundays Medley Stableford competition only had 11 competitors due to the Gundagai v Tumut Shield held in Gundagai and some wet weather. 

Keith Dehnert relished playing from the White tees in shooting an excellent five under par round to record 39 points. 

Travis Curnow finished runner up with 38 points and Peter Wren claimed third with 36 points. 

Nearest pins – ninth Travis Curnow (white tees) 840cm, 17th Steve Harris 76cm. 

Last Thursday’s nine-hole chook run was played over the back nine in the Stableford format with 31 teeing off. 

Glenn Stroud had an excellent round in recording 23 points to claim the win from Ryan Lesner who finished runner up on countback from Steve Hung after both returned 21 points. 

Other prizes went to- Stuart Tozer 20, Greg Kell 20, John Hickson 19, Shane Carroll 19 and Jamie Harland 19. 

Tuesday 17 February saw the Seniors contest a Stableford competition over the back nine holes with 36 oldies teeing up. 

Derrick Urquhart ran out the winner with a very good round of 22 points from Gordon Webb second with 21 points. 

Then followed Greg Cullen 20, Craig McKenzie 20, Derek Elliott 20, Geoff Day 19, Louie Mulvihill 19, Geoff Brain 19, Greg Kell 19, Peter Wren 19, Mick O’Donovan 18, Graham Strack 18, Warwick Butler 18, Barry Lang 18 and Steven Shanahan 18. 

Mick O’Donovan claimed nearest pin on hole seventeen 146cm. 

The midweek Stableford competition for last week had 29 contestants and went to Ben Wysman with a very impressive 41 points. 

James Booby finished runner up on countback with 38 points and Geoff Brain third with 38 points also on countback.
