What’s up guys,
In todays session, you guys will be seeing me work with 9 year old goalkeeper, Christopher. Because he’s only 9, I didn’t want to overload him with crazy concepts OR an overly complex session structure. Instead, I chose a straightforward session with 2 core themes: unannounced services & creating depth with his distribution.
After watching an English FA Learning Course, where the GK Dept. at AFC Bournemouth discussed the development of a skill vs development of a technique, I began to eliminate the volley from my service completely. Their point about developing a technique into a skill and how that would translate better to a game was something new for me to conceptualize. This is my 5th session with Chris since switching to unannounced services, and I have noticed his comfort levels rise to new heights when it comes to his handling anywhere inside & out of his bubble.
We then covered creating depth prior to receiving a back-pass. Going from in & out of possession was key to have him visualize the actions before and after collecting a shot cleanly!
