Hello there!

I’d like to buy a beginner set for my girlfriend, she played golf when she was a kid (mainly lessons) but she wants to start playing again.

I want to buy a second hand Wilson set for her and have currently two options.

Wilson Matrix Evolve (+/- €200)
(Driver, wood 5, hybrid, iron 7,8,9 P, S, Putter
Cartbag cream. Played with one season by a kid (clubs undamaged)

Wilson Profile (€250-€300)
Driver, Wood 5, Hybrid 5, Iron 7,8,9, P, S, putter, cartbag blue (Netherlands version) played with once or twice.

What do you advise? She’s quite small 1.60meters.

The irons, wedges and putter in these sets are pretty good for the price (and the bag). It’s always the woods and driver that aren’t as forgiving as premium clubs. I don’t think you’ll see much performance difference between the two.

But they’re still good value and if she enjoys it you can grab a 2nd hand driver off Ebay in a few months time (get an old Ping G10/15 with 12-14º loft).

It’s either that or opting for a beginner set like the Cobra Fly XL, they’re more like €600, but are a super women’s set (I bought one for the last uni where I was Head of Golf).

For custom fitting, she should be okay, women’s clubs are generally 2-2.5cm shorter than standard men’s. Gripping down clubs a little isn’t the end of the world if she needs to. More often, it’s having clubs that are too heavy that is the killer.

    I hope that helps.

They’re pretty cheap clubs I can’t imagine there is going to be any noticeable difference in performance. If it’s between these two I would just go with what you think she would prefer visually.
