Rosslare Ladies

We were back in action again on Tuesday, February 17 with an unusual format for us. To practice for this summer’s inter-club fixtures, we held a foursomes matchplay competition and the entry fees raised will help to fund our teams’ activities during the season. The winning pair with a terrific score of nine up were Joan Bowe and Miriam Geraghty.

Saturday, February 21, 12-hole singles stableford: 1, Regina O’Connell (22, Royal Curragh), 29 points; 2, Dorothy Kenny (13, Enniscorthy), 27 points; 3, Daphne Jones (24), 25 points.

In the Howden winter league we had two full days of singles stableford play on February 21 and 22. The leaderboard now shows that Bowes and Arrows, led by the mighty Joan Bowe, are still holding fast in the top slot on 27 points.

In second place with 23 points are Links Lunatics captained by Murt Joyce, and in third place are Catherine Howard’s Howie’s Heroes on 17 points.

Following last weekend’s singles competitions nothing is guaranteed as all 14 teams were out and fighting hard to improve their positions.

With two more weekends of play to go, and the remaining 11 teams grouped in close contention, this year’s Howden winter league is shaping up to be a cliff-hanger.

Rosslare professional Jamie O’Sulllivan’s Tip of the Week: “For slower winter greens ensure that you make a long rhythmical pendulum stroke with a slightly wider stance for stability.

This will help with the longer slower putts so you can finally get the ball to the hole!”

Keep up to date with news, results and pictures on our website (www.rosslaregolf.com) and on social media.

Golf with us and enjoy a delicious snack or a meal at La Vista Café and Restaurant, the coolest eatery in Rosslare.

Visitors are especially welcome but remember to book your table in advance, particularly at weekends.

Happily, conditions improved and on Saturday the Garden County team took on a strong Coollattin.

In a tightly-fought match, Ballymoney dug out a 3.5 to 2.5 points win.
