Man I hope it looks like that when they play it in June. Please don't burn it out again
Excited to see Shinny once more. Keep the greens running at 10 on the Stimpmeter and NO faster.
Burn the fairways out as much as you want, though.
That music is awful …..
Less than 4 months from now. Seems much further away with a snowstorm hitting Shinnecock soon.
Hey, I noticed there's still a couple trees left. What happened? Did your chainsaw run our of gas? 🤣
Already?
The USGA had better narrow the fairways and grow the rough up for this Open!! In 2018, they were tearing the place up with low scores, until the USGA decided not to water the green, and it got away from them in a typical modern day USGA debacle.
Hopefully they get it right this time. The hell with the falsehood from some years back iterated by the USGA that "the game has evolved, and that's why the fairways are wider, because players hit the ball longer than ever." That's stupid talk and thinking. Doesn't matter how damn long they hit it these days, grow the rough up and narrow the fairways.
It will level the playing field, and perhaps even some shorter and accurate hitters will contend in Opens, like they used to! The USGA has always awarded accuracy, mistake not to honor that. The tournament has lost it's luster in the Majors, and think that many golfers would put it at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to ranking the 4. A shame because it probably used to be tops for many years with the traditions and having the reputation as "the toughest test in golf". It certainly is not that anymore
Has Shinnecock always been this wide open? I know the current fad is to ruin all tree lined fairway classic courses which is annoying but I do like this one
please make it tough but fair. who cares if players whine. with the equipment and skill of these dudes courses should be hard. par should be good. a birdie should be great
Originally opened in 1891
Current course opened in 1931
Originally designed by William Flynn
Renovated by Bill Coore & Ben Crenshaw
Par: 70
Yardage: 7,440 (appropriate)
Another great course ruined by tree removal. Absolutely shameful. Super boring and ugly now
Wow, the USGA finally put in a flyover video that is actually good. They listened to all the feedback and actually made the changes. Color me impressed, this is not David Fay's or Mike Davis' USGA…
