Taylormade Qi4D 9 Wood – Fitting and Build

In today’s video we’re at the TaylorMade Kingdom where I’m going to walk you through a detailed build of the NEW Qi4D 9 wood.

I cover everything you need to be aware of as a FITR when it comes to working with lofted Fairway woods and what you should be considering in terms of the build spec.

From there we head onto the test range to put this unique club through its paces and discuss where it would fit in your bag as a PLYR and how it would directly compare to the 5 iron.

This is a longer video but it’s for good reason. Selecting a 9 wood isn’t for everyone but I think you’ll see from my reaction that I was intrigued to see where my journey with this club could go.

As always #comment below with any questions and let me know if you’re looking at a 9 wood this season.

  1. trottie, one question. If I like to fade my shots on my 3 wood and 5 wood, shorter than std helps? Or I need to go longer than std?

  2. Trottie – how come you did not do an AIR INSTALL for the grip while you were testing out the length of the club during the process? Just curious. I have been doing air installs lately to find my desired grip, but for your length of club that seems like a primo spot to do it as well.

  3. I tried a 9 wood at my local second hand dealer. launched way too high for my liking for a wood… it just didn't fell right. it was like my brain wasn't computing this head shape launching ball this high. i might come around sometime.. but not there yet 😂😉

  4. No thanks! 7 wood and 5 hybrid is a better combo for various lies. And honestly, the 7 wood goes too damn high if there’s any wind at all. And that’s with a 2 inch tipped Tensei X-Stiff 1k Pro White. I keep a 4 driving iron in the bag because the 7 is useless at 10mph wind.

  5. This has me perplexed at the moment. I have a 4hy, carries 205yds. My 5 iron carries 185 yds. But i really have a hard time hitting the thing. So i put a 5 hy in the bag… but its a sim max 2 and seems to sit very open. My miss with it is a pull draw. I wanted to put a 9 wood in… Our greens are quite small, and soft… What config of shaft would you go Trottie? Im around 98 -100 with the 4hy. Love your content mate. Love from Austrailia.

  6. If 0.4 of a swingweight bothers you, you can always take a razorblade and cut out a little notch of rubber at the drain hole in your grip

  7. I don't think I need a 9 wood quite yet… but I do love the 7 wood I bought not ago which has replaced my 5 wood because it's a bit hotter and easier to flight so lost no distance, I have also replaced my 3 wood… with another 3 wood that's got a slightly heavier and stiffer shaft in it which on a good day absolutely flies and has much tighter dispersion (I might replace my driver with this on a bad driver day)!

  8. I’m not a special golfer. I flutter between +2 and +3 over a season. I’m cursed with over-sensitivity to swing weight. I can deal with +/- .5, but I’ll get it fixed before i bag it. I don’t think it makes me anything other than high maintenance. It sucks because I have to use a builder I trust, I can’t just order from an OEM or get club fixes done at a big box store. I have all my clubs built/re-built and repaired by one guy. He’s the best in my area. But that means an hour drive each way, and longer wait times as he’s a one man shop and in demand. Totally worth it though.

  9. I only go down to a 5 iron then too a 7 wood . Wonder if a 9 wood would be a nice fit between my 5 iron and the 7 wood .
