ANOTHER date has been added to the Stand for Féile Golf Classic, which will take place on April 16th, 17th and 18th at Kenmare Golf Club, writes Jackie Keogh.

This event, plus two other local fundraising events, is expected to bring the total amount raised for the 13-year-old Allihies girl, Féile O’Sullivan, and her family, to around €1.3 million.

The golf classic was originally scheduled to take place on April 17th and 18th, but such was the demand that Garnish GAA man and Independent Cllr Finbarr Harrington said April 16th had to be added by popular demand.

It is expected that the golf classic could raise €300,000, or maybe more, with additional funds coming in from ‘A Jersey Day’ in which schoolchildren will wear a GAA jersey of their choice and donate €2 to the trust fund for Féile.

The organisers of the Ring of Kerry Cycle, which will take place on July 4th next, have also decided to row in behind the teenager who lost both of her legs as a result of a farming accident in Allihies on July 2nd last.

The golf event, which is being organised by a committee under the chairmanship of Barry Coffey, had envisaged welcoming a large number of teams, each paying €500 per team of four, but now they say they are looking at 100 teams, or maybe even more.

Speaking on behalf of the original StandForFéile GoFundMe campaign, Finbarr said: ‘This will be the last major fundraising event for us, bringing the total to €1.3 or possibly €1.4 million, which will certainly help this spirited young Beara girl on her road to recovery.’
