Just picked these up for a great price. £10 per club. Matching serial numbers and in great shape. Should I game them? Took them to the range for a hit and seem to be losing about 10 yards per club in comparison to my mizuno irons. Also seem to be hitting them left quite a bit. I do think they have the cool factor though!

Great collectibles but why would you game something that is going to make you play worse? This game is hard enough.
Don’t play irons from the 80s unless you don’t care about your score.
You did it. You invented the time machine. Hope you like 2005.
Step 1 Buy 2 Liter Bottle of Coke
Step 2 Soak irons over night
Step 3 Remove and wipe off
Step 4 Put in old bag and never play
I’ve already been thinking about the coke trick. I quite like the finish that’s on them atm
Am I the only one that thinks these irons are hideous?
Beauties. The most classic and arguably revolutionary iron ever made.
The lofts on your Mizunos are likely stronger, which explains the distance discrepancy. As for missing left, there’s a lot of factors at play between sets (lie angle and shaft chief among them). If you’ve never been fitted and your handicap is 20+, play what makes you happy. If you’re better (or will be putting in the work to get better), get fitted to see what you need. You could get new shafts in these irons, but they cannot be bent to change the lie angle (cast irons cannot be safely bent).
Regardless, you now own a full set of the most classic iron in golf history (in my opinion).
My BIL finally accepted that it was time to update his 25 year old Ping Zings. Got fit into new Callaway and it’s going to be a very different season for him.
The new Callaway’s are obviously stronger lofted, but still, he’s gaining 20+ yards with a slight fade in the 7 iron and around 6000 spin.
What shaft is in them? Are the labels still on?
If you are losing 10 yards per club and hitting to the left quite often why would you use them ?
If you really want to play those they’ll need modern shafts to be functional. I wouldn’t recommend it. There’s a reason they don’t make clubs like this anymore.
They belong in a museum
The perfect set of clubs for when you want to pick up cheating at golf as a hobby. JK. This set has the U Grooves, which are illegal in pro events but are perfectly fine in amateur play. A couple friends of mine have sets and I gotta say they feel fantastic when you hit them flush. Great find. Have fun!
I halved my handicap from 10 down to 5 when I bought my Ping Eye 2+ irons, back in the day. These are obviously beryllium copper and I think they look just fine.
Hey I still play a really similar club to this and I really like them. The low irons hit extremely well but I don’t love the dispersion of the 9/PW. They’re good clubs though! As others have said, they’re weakly lofted but who cares about the numbers if you adjust for it
There’s a lot of offset with these irons. I tend to pull and hook my misses when I play my old Eye 2 set. They’re a fun talking point and good for a nostalgic day on the course…but I’m never not gaming my modern Srixons.
Modern Mizunos are very strong lofted.
The 4 iron on these pings is 25 degrees. That’s the same as JPX925’s 6 iron.
Ping 7 iron is 36 and the Mizuno 9 iron is 37.
The color of the dot shows what lie angle you got as well

I game my Ping ISI beryllium coppers. They are the best and there is nothing better than beating guys with clubs older than they are.
Still my favorite clubs I’ve ever played. They obviously can’t keep up with modern clubs for multiple reasons, but god they were smooth.
I’ve got a set of these and still kept the 3-4 iron in my bag with the G425s I got about 5 years ago.
Dream irons as a kid.
Beautiful, absolutely gorgeous
Played my dad’s ping eye 2s from the 80s for most of my life untill he passed in 2010. You should not play these as they are super old tech and don’t go very far just like you discovered. Gold club tech def changed quite a bit over a few decades.
