MELBOURNE, Fla. – The University of Pennsylvania women’s golf team is in fourth place after the first day of play at the Space Coast Classic. The two-day, 54-hole event is being hosted by Columbia and taking place on the par-72 course at Duran Golf Club.

Penn shot 293 in Saturday’s first round and then shaved five strokes off its team score in the second round. That left the Quakers at 5-over-par 581 for the day. Dartmouth is the team leader, the Big Green shooting 274 in the second round to end the day at 4-under-par 572. Notre Dame is second at even par, while the host Lions are third at 578 (+2).
Individually, freshman Mi Li went even par in the morning and under par in the afternoon, ending the day at 1-under-par 143. That had her tied for eighth in a field of 78 golfers who finished the day. Senior Julie Shin carded two even-par rounds to end the day at even par, tied for 11th, while freshman Adrienne Ahn-Upton went even par in the afternoon and ended Saturday tied for 19th at 147 (+3).
Li ended Saturday tied for third in the field in par-4 scoring (3.95), while Shin was tied for fourth in par-5 scoring (4.63). The duo also were among the leaders in total pars on Saturday, Shin t-2nd with 28 and Li t-5th with 27. Ahn-Upton was also in the top 10 in that category Saturday, with 25 pars.
Junior Maggie Ni scored for Penn in the morning, sophomore Claire Lu scored for the Quakers in the afternoon, and both of them finished Saturday at 149 (+5) which has them tied for 25th in the field. Senior Bridget O’Keefe is playing the tournament as an individual and carded a pair of 78s.
Notre Dame’s Alexsandra Lapple is the individual leader heading into Sunday’s final round; she shot a pair of 4-under-par 68s to end the day at 8-under-par 136. That has her one stroke ahead of Seton Hall’s Marta Aguilar.
