Tiger was like the best ever and raised it lol?

Speed (distance) priority in player skillset

  3. rolltidebutnotreally

That all just seems within a margin of error. But maybe greens have gotten tougher while putters improved?

The differences aren’t meaningful at all imo.

    Unlikely to be statistically significant

Tbh after the shot link era, strokes gained and all the strategy system like DECADE… it is normal that putting it is not as good since we know now that it is relatively much less impactful than the long game at a super high level.

    -Faster greens

-Courses that reward elite drivers and ball-strikers over elite putters

    -Outlawed anchoring

  8. AdministrativeLaugh2

Those percentages are almost nothing and certainly not large enough differences to be statistically significant.

I can’t move on with my life until I see the percentage of putts pros make from 9 feet. Why didn’t they include that??

Per Lou Stagner on X: the 2005 putts are more “bunched up” toward the short end (closer to the hole) than the 2025 putts.

Today’s PGA tour is built on ball striking.
Fewer putting specialists out on tour these days. More strokes to be gained by being a superior ball striker.

Barely event statistically significant, but it’s green spends.

Besides faster greens it’s just not that good of a stat. What if in 2005 50% of the 4-8” putts were from under 6 feet but now only 42% of them are?

For those saying “Tiger” you really struggle with math.

Greens are faster, truer, probably shorter now. I putt better on slightly longer grass, wetter grass. IMHO the ball holds the line longer.

    Greens are more difficult now..

  17. respond1

Putting HAS improved just not enough to exceed the rate in which putting surfaces have been made more difficult (mainly faster).

People yelling “get in the hole”

  19. poopinion

Faster greens, pins in tougher spots to try and fight against distance, Scotty Cameron losing his touch.

This is what we call, not statistically significant. Is it odd that all are declined? Yes. Probably something in the data that explains this. Too bad PGA locks it up.

I’m guessing a rounding error that lowered the precision YoY.
