Balance is the master key to your forehand success. Jeff Salzenstein shares a simple tip to instantly fix your balance on the forehand, so you can improve the quality of this shot and start ripping forehands more often.

One simple way to improve your balance is to keep your head in the hitting side of the body longer after contact. You’ll keep your chin on the dominant side of the shoulder ; hence, it’ll force you to finish high on your forehand. Another powerful key is to tap your back foot at the end of the motion, while your head stays in the dominant side of your body.

When you’re playing a point and you step in to hit a forehand, you can bring the outside leg around and square up in a wide, athletic base for proper balance. The horse stance is a great exercise to develop the strength and stability to hold this position at the end of the shot.

When you’re hitting an open stance forehand, you’re going to finish in a wide and athletic base to stay balanced after the shot. Then, you can focus on recovery steps. In fact, recovering fast is going to hamper your balance.

Jeff suggests focusing on being balanced at the end of your forehand, and practicing the fundamental tips provided during this tennis lesson.
