Plans to open a vegan restaurant at an Isle of Wight golf club will not go ahead following complications with the building’s lease.

As previously reported by the County Press, the Rustic Kitchen was due to open at Browns Golf on Yaverland Road in Sandown.

Mel Shaw, operator of the vegan business, shared plans for the new venture as a continuation of her business, The Bay Vegan Deli and Coffee House, on Sandown High Street, which closed at the end of last month (January).

However, complications with the building’s lease has led to her stepping away from the project.

Paul Saville, operator of the golf attraction, confirmed to the County Press the building’s current lease had restrictions relating to underletting.

Paul said the council had contacted him, and due to underletting possibly jeopardising the lease on the building in its current form, meetings were set up next month (March) with the Isle of Wight Council.

Paul believes the complications will be resolved following the meetings, but plans to have the Rustic Kitchen in the building will now not go ahead.

Owner Mel Shaw confirmed she has decided to step away and has no involvement with Browns Golf beyond the two Valentine’s events held at the golf club last weekend (Saturday, February 14 and Sunday, February 15).
