The club said on Facebook: “Once again the ground staff at Niggbay golf club turn up for work this morning to more damage sustained to the golf course last night.

“This is the second time in the last fortnight that this has occurred and with the ground being so soft it becomes very hard to repair for the coming season.”

Photos shared by the club show a number of holes pockmarked by what appears to be bike or scooter tracks.

The club added: “There are plenty green spaces around Torry for people to have fun with bikes and scooters etc without causing this kind of damage to a well maintained golf course.”

Scottish Conservative MSP Liam Kerr also hit out at the vandalism, which he labelled “despicable”.

Kerr said: “This is yet another example of these bikes being used irresponsibly to wreak havoc on areas across Aberdeen and it’s about time they were cracked down on

“The staff and members at Nigg Bay take a lot of pride in the maintenance of the course, which forms a vital part of the Torry community.

He added: “Repairing the damage will cost substantial sums of money and will take up a lot of time, just months before the full golf season starts.

“I hope those responsible for this terrible act are caught and I would urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident to get in touch with the police immediately.”

Described as “one of the best municipal 18 hole courses in Scotland”, Nigg Bay is set along the North Sea coast overlooking the bustling Aberdeen Harbour and the city beyond.
