I played a Challenge Tour winner in a head-to-head match at Orange Tree Golf Club — a course Tiger Woods used to practise on while preparing for the US Open.
This wasn’t a friendly knock. This was a proper test.
Orange Tree might not be famous, but it’s demanding, tight, and punishes bad golf — exactly the kind of place elite players sharpen their games. We played from the back tees, kept score, and treated it like a tournament round.
The question was simple:
Can I compete with someone who’s already won at that level?

So cool to see it…I've never been on it. Its like 10 mins from Bay Hill. And like 15 from Isleworth. Played those two but this is a treat to see.

Velten is a really nice player with a solid compact swing. Classy guy who doesn't feel the need to swear on every hole !
Good watch, nicely put together. Really enjoying the US content. He has a nice, consistent swing, nothing wild, nice flighted shots. When you're playing someone like that and they're holing putts from 15-20ft, it's going to be a tough day, I don't care who you are.

With this course and playing someone like this guy who can hit stingers with a controlled draw with a 3 wood you was always going to have to play out of your skin. Factor in his putting and it was probably the hardest 9 holes of your career. You can play James whoever said you was a 6 handicapper is a chump. Enjoyed the match. 👍
When James comes up against top tour players I’ve noticed that he isn’t as long off the tee as he thinks. This guy, Liam Robinson, Harry Konig etc all outdrive him quite comfortably
