Competing on Tuesday and Wednesday, two Huskies finished in the top-25 as NIU women’s golf took ninth at the BGSU Women’s Intercollegiate.

“Great to have some consistency from Mia (Raines) and Dakota (Tallent),” NIU head coach Kim Kester said via NIU Athletics. “(We’re) making some positive strides to get a 3-4 spot.”

NIU finished with a final score of 895, 43 strokes over par in a tournament of 15 teams. The Huskies finished 2 strokes behind the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles and 9 strokes ahead of the University of Idaho Vandals.

The Huskies’ best round was the third round on Wednesday with a score of 296, 12 over par.

Sophomore Mia Raines led the way for the Huskies, scoring 5-over par and tying for 11th. Raines finished on par through the first round, then fell back to 3-over par and 2-over par in the second and third rounds.

“I’m pleased with the way I played and stayed patient throughout the tournament,” Raines said via NIU Athletics. “The course was in great condition and the weather was perfect which made it a lot of fun. I struck the ball solid overall, was able to capitalize on some birdie opportunities, and ending with an eagle was a nice way to finish the competition.”

The Huskies second best finisher was sophomore Dakota Tallent, who finished with 7-over par and tied for 16th. Tallent finished on par in the first round and tallied 3-over par and 4-over par the next two rounds.

Freshman Emile Chile was NIU’s third best scorer, finishing 12-over par and tying for 30th. Chile scored 7-over par in the first round, but bounced back the following rounds by scoring 3-over par and 2-over par.
