Was analyzing my Grints insights, and realize I (think) I’m very different to a lot of other eight/lower handicappers that I know. I hit a lot of greens, I stick it close with my wedges and I’m an excellent scrambler. Conversely, I’m a poor putter and I incur penalties like a 20 handicap (I’ve very wild off the tee).

Basically, if I get off the tee ok, I’m usually breaking 80. I recover well from the rough but I can easily be three off the tee 2-3 times a round and that kills me.

How does this jive with your game as a single digit handicap?

We sound like the exact same golfer lol

My driver is my biggest weakness right now

I’m simile to you, 5 index, I’m a longer guy that can miss big when I miss. My worst round this summer was an 83 where I lost 5 balls. And the damn (not so) occasional 3 putt phases me off like nothing else.

This is wild. What happens if you play off the closer tees (for example the whites) and really try to swing easy with driver?

Your penalties and driving accuracy issues are more of a decision making problem than a skills issue, imo.

If you are sub 5 HCP in GIR, Approach and scrambling you should be hitting less than driver off the tee way more often, until your driver is under control.

dang. I haven’t looked at this in a while. my fitted driver has my driving accuracy under the scratch line :O , putter and grints under my hcp and penalties are 3 over everything else right in line. pretty cool.

No where near this. Very consistent is all categories.

I used to be very similar. Two thinks I did was get a lesson for just my driver. And the second one is aim 40 yards away from trouble. Then I started taking putting seriously. Went from a 3-5 handicap to scratch in 2 years

Yes. My penalties are brutal. I also looked at my scoring averages and I’m like. 3.4 on par 3s, 4.5 par 4s but my par 5 averages is like 6.2.

I play 5s and short par 4s pretty poorly because I fall into the trap of the closer to the hole the better no matter if you’re in the fairway or a bunker. However… if you rope hook a 3 wood into the trees on your second shot into a par 5 or blast a drive into the water or trees so I can have less than 100 yards to the pin that whole closer the better shit don’t matter.

While I do 100% agree the closer to the hole the better Im starting to have this internal come to Jesus moment that I need to understand my own game and I can’t always flush a 3 wood on a side hill lie like pros can. Or if I pull driver here yes I could be 75 yards out on my 2nd shot if I pipe one but it also brings the water on the left in play, maybe I just hit my 7wood and have like 125 yards in instead. Plus even if I do pull off those shots I usually walk out with par but if I don’t pull it off I’m leaving with a double AT BEST.

What’s a “Grint”…. i know what the app is, but what does it mean by 6.9 “Grints”

Yeah, driver and penalties due to driver is my main problem. If I played shorter courses I’d probably drop some strokes but since I’m a big strong manly man (only in my head) I gotta play back with the rest of the scrubs.

I’m a 19 handicapper but get labelled a bandit/sandbagger very often, I’m very similar to yourself where I struggle off the tee. If I get off the tee I’m usually playing for par, I often get birdies, but will also take bogeys where I need to. My decision making is also atrocious. My aim for this year is get my handicap down, I believe I should be off 12-14.

I don’t completely understand the data. But it looks like you have more penalties as a result of driving accuracy. You scoring is impacted by this and your putting.
