The TRICK to RELEASE the Golf Club Through Impact!

How to release the golf club through the ball and avoid tension post-impact.

In this video, PGA pro Kerrod Gray and Alex Riggs (@riggsgolf) explain the importance of allowing the lead arm to rotate externally. By training your thumbs to point toward the target and finishing with the club resting on your lead shoulder, you’ll feel the correct movement and build a more fluid follow-through.

  1. Good video, would you say another key reason people don’t have the textbook release is due to holding club too tightly?

  2. Good video guys, but I'm still trying to control my lead arm not to bend when I release the ball but I'm still struggling, although my shot can travel almost 150 yards but it is still bending.

  3. Everytime I try this I hook it, I’m a chronic flipper to begin with so it just might be too much with early releasing the wrist + lead arm rotation.. any thoughts on this?

  4. The best tip ever for me was after I get the club into the hitting position, club paralell to the ground, feeling the left thumb points to the target and the right thumb follows really releases the club and then feeling the thumbs point upward and elbows soften and the shaft rests comfortably on my shoulder makes me feel like a pro which I'm far from but this is the swing for me!! Thanks so much for this video. I often go back to it. I use to try to hit up on the driver and my weight would fall backwards but now I tee it a bit lower and hit through it and it launces fine with a baby draw. So nice. And this swing is so much easier on my old body. Now if I could only putt. Thanks again Kerrod Gray.
