Golf’s Greatest Pilgrimage? | 48 Hours In The Highlands

Join Mike Robertson and Tom Irwin for the very first episode in our brand-new golf travel series, 48 Hours In…, as they kick things off in one of the world’s most beautiful settings, the Scottish Highlands.

In this episode, Mike and Tom tee it up and some of the most iconic golf courses in the world: Royal Dornoch Golf Club, Fortrose & Rosemarkie Golf Club, Nairn Golf Club and Cabot Highlands (formerly Castle Stuart).

From inside the historic Nairn Archive Room to walking the fairways with a Cabot Highlands professional, Mike and Tom meet the people who know the history of these storied golf clubs and share their anecdotes with us.

Away from the course, they dive into the local culture with some classic Highlands whisky tasting, this region is, after all, home to some of the world’s finest distilleries.

Whether you’re a golf fanatic, a lover of Scotland, or just here for the whisky and views, this is the series for you.

  1. On my last visit to Nairn I was having a drink in the clubhouse after my round when the nicest Lady came up to me out of the blue and asked me if I would like to see the Archive room. Of course I said yes and she proceeded to take me to the room and show me around. What a treat!

  2. Fortrose is one beautiful golf course! I was lucky enough to see the dolphins when I played it.

I'm lucky to have relatives only a few hundred yards away.

  3. It is 20 years since I played Dornoch, the Gorse was in full flower and it was just so beautiful and both a fair and unbelievably hard course.

Same trip I played Nairn. it was calm you could play easily until 10.30 pm and the course was set up for an amateur championship (not sure which one). Really enjoyed it

  4. I live up north east, play Nairn and others around most weeks. Just wish I was better to do these justice.

Not sure I’d want to live anywhere else

  5. Played them all, more than once. Dornoch is up in my top 5 in Scotland – a must play along with Turnberry (mortgage required these days) and Cruden Bay as well, as the Open venues. Did anyone suggest a game at Brora – full of character and another unique experience, not least the sheep & cattle on the course! Look forward to them visiting the Kintyre Peninsula – the two Machrihanish courses plus Dunaverty.

  6. I played the 36 hole open at Dornoch nearly 40 years ago. One over after 8, first round 95. The less said about my second round the better!

  7. This is an excellent video, a mix of well known courses and a hidden gem, just right in terms of length and the drone shots give a brilliant perspective of the courses. More please!!

  8. It is a shame they did not spend another day or two in the area and play Golspie, Brora & Tain. All 3 are courses very much worth playing and all 3 are within a 15-20 minute drive of Dornoch.
