Amateurs and pros will do nearly anything to hole more putts. A recent trend on Tour has been “The Claw” putting grip. Adopters include Scottie Scheffler, Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood and Collin Morikawa. But why and how does it work? In this episode of Film Study, Luke Kerr-Dineen explains the unconventional putting grip with insight from Rose himself as well as Phil Kenyon.

I love the claw grip. So thankful for the info about my favorite grip
i love you guys and yalls content
would love an analysis on the "rotation" patterns of pros in conjunction it to the new Qi4D Driver Reax Shaft marketing jargon. Emphasis on the patterns, with the HR/MR/LR as the baseline .
Another great video. In Luke we trust. 🔥
-6.8 SG to scratch last season, about 2 strokes putting. Got a longer putter and switching to claw for 2026. Looking forward to seeing what happens! BTW nice timing on the Justin Rose breakdown!
claw grip makes zero sense to me. now i know why, my lower hand is passive, which also explains my fade bias. Luke keeps bringing the best golf analysis.
The fact that you were working in this video before Rose’s dominance at Torrey Pines. Fire 🔥
Living in England I was lucky to see one of Phil Kenyon's team 5 years ago. I''m a 2 handicapper. I struggled with short putts. They analysed my stoke with Sam Puttlab and found I wasn't controlling the face at all. Changing to the claw caused an immediate improvement and I haven't looked back since.
Great video
Someone give Luke a pay rise, knocking it out the park once again. I recently moved to the claw and putting better than I ever have.
Been lurking this channel for the past few months, and hands-down you are the best golf analytic channel there is!
South african van tonder golf swing
Been using the claw since my first year of playing golf.. Was so shaky and dominant with my right hand, with the claw I don't even think about it
Please make these videos faster.
You are asking for ideas on what to cover… I have a list:
– Things that pros do, that amateurs should avoid
– How Tiger Woods plays golf backwards (see book How I Play Golf)
– How tour pros anazlye their lie, and the importance of lie in shot selection
– How pros choose wedges… reason behind bounce, lie, grind, etc.
– How pros choose which long distance clubs to put in the bag
– Rule advantages that pros take advantage of during play
– How pros decide to be aggressive vs. play boring golf
– Do pros care about angle into a green more than distance off tee?
– What pros do when between clubs
– How do pros play in wind
– Why were certain shots in history, statistical outliers
So what I am hearing is I can fix my slice with a claw grip on the driver. BREAKTHROUGH!!!
This is such a good channel. I love the content you guys put out.
I’m not great by any means but changed to a claw style grip w a mallet putter. Changed my game
I think this golf journalist does a superlative job. First, he's got cool voice and I just listening to him. A big advantage to be sure. But, his topics are even cooler. You always feel like you are learning some hidden secret about golf, or the back story no one knows about. Lastly, the production of the videos is 5 star. Bravo.
This might have just convinced me to switch.
After a lifetime of traditional putting grip, I gave up and went to the claw last week. I shot 5 over for 9 holes and four of those dropped shots were putts inside 5 feet. After that round I tried the claw and it eliminated the pull left that I've been struggling to control for at least the past 10 years.
Claw is the worst thing in golf. Claw is not reliable, requires too much time to perfect, and you will usually still miss putts because unless you spend hundreds of hours practicing claw putting, you will lose it on the course. If you’re having trouble being consistent with the traditional putter grip, get rid of your instructor or just really learn how to putt like a man. Don’t put a Sesame Street bandaid on your stroke. I’m gonna tell you right now, first place to start fixing your traditional putter stroke is in your mind.
“The worst putter in golf” maybe on pga which isn’t saying much
Old news, but the grip has been in use since mid 90's at latest. Terry Price was first Oz pro to use it in '96.
