CALHOUN COUNTY, MI — Four horses were rescued from icy water in Newton Township the morning of Sunday, Feb. 1.

The horses wandered onto an icy pond at Turtle Creek Golf Course in Burlington after escaping from their enclosure. The ice gave way and the horses became trapped in the shallow water beneath.

The horses were manually extracted from the pond by the Calhoun County Area Law Enforcement Underwater Rescue Team with assistance from local fire departments. The horses were able to walk away from the scene and receive further treatment.

The Burlington Fire Department, Newton Township Fire Department and Union City Fire Department assisted at the scene.
