In this week’s episode of The Golf Podcast we react in real time to breaking news as Patrick Reed announces he’s leaving LIV Golf and planning a return to the PGA Tour. We break down how Reed’s situation is very different from Brooks Koepka’s costly path back, explain why Reed won’t face the same penalties, and walk through the full timeline from his LIV exit to when he’s eligible to compete again on the PGA Tour. The bigger question, though, is what this move means for LIV Golf as a league, especially with multiple high-profile American players now heading back to the PGA Tour while many international stars remain committed to LIV. We also examine Reed’s recent comments praising the PGA Tour, his motivation for returning, and how family, travel, visibility, and brand value may all be playing a role in these decisions. Plus, we discuss how Patrick Reed might be received by fans and players as he returns to a tour where he once played the villain, and whether the PGA Tour actually benefits from having polarizing personalities back in the spotlight. From exemptions and eligibility to majors, rankings, and long-term implications for both tours, we cover everything you need to know about Patrick Reed leaving LIV Golf and what could come next.

  1. Reed never ever said he wanted to play less. It’s really about being closer to home more. And of course money.

Brooks seemed ready to be closer to home at any cost.

Reed seems more of a contractual issue.

I keep saying keeping American name players is livs biggest challenge; since they have so many great events in their homeland. Money does help but even that is hard to compete with one’s own bed.

Either way I’m happy both players are returning with situations everyone is happy with.

I think both tours are doing just fine.

Tiger never got old for those of us old enough.

The fans will treat Reed as always. Some jerks will harass him. Most people will respectfully applaud.

  2. Pga Tour is boring. Crap golf courses designed for Target golf. Hit a 5 iron out of 6 inch rough and it stops dead next to the pin. How many times did that happen in Australia on real courses where you get punished for bad shots. I only watch the majors now. The U.S open and Augusta are the only 2 courses where you get penalised for errant tee shots.

  3. DP tour are morons, they should team up with LIV and make it a global tour, in time it would become the Premier tour on Earth.

  4. PIF can let over paid employees out the door, hire more college kids for penny's, and hope that maybe college kids will watch their Livv shows.

  5. Reed wasnt offered a new contract by LIV, hes a major winner, but hardly high profile, except for his infamy. Bryson got a great new deal from LIV, especially because of the eyeballs he brings. The Duels and the YT output from Phil, Bryson, Rahm adds value to LIV, Reed didnt.

  6. If you guys want to know LIVs response, take a look at the management presser on YT, they discuss their 5 year fully funded plan, it involves LIV working with National Opens as the major sponsor partner, so Australian Open, Korean Open, Spanish Open, South African Open, New Zealand Open. As other national opens come out of existing contracts, LIV plan to partner going forward. So LIV is looking to build global partnerships, i would be surprised if they take over the DP world tour in the long term

  7. The one thing that no one is talking about is that when LIV started, half of their events were in the US. Each year since, they have been moving to more of an international model. I have said since the beginning, LIV has been trying to be like F1 to IndyCar. LIV the worldwide tour and the PGATour basically a US based tour. If LIV had been more well received in the US, maybe more events would be in the US and guys like Brooks and Patrick would be more happy with it.
