Wychavon’s planning committee meets on Thursday (February 5) and will also decide on plans for bungalows in North Littleton and Lockley Homes’ proposal to build 14 homes in Flyford Flavell.

First up for councillors will be major plans put forward by Bredon View Holiday Park Estate and Golf Course, in Great Comberton.

145 new holiday lodges

The estate wants to build 145 new holiday lodges and a new activity play area, a plan that would see the existing golf course reduced from 18 holes to nine.

There are already 61 lodges on the site and the estate has approval for 20 more.

Dozens of residents have objected to the scheme, saying it would “completely change the atmosphere of the park”.

Fears it will ‘decimate the golf course’

Others say it would “decimate the golf course” as the longest and best holes would be lost. The course is the reason some existing owners bought their lodges in the first place.

Great Comberton Parish Council also objected to the plans, saying: “This incremental development has stretched the capacity of this landscape to accept development to the limits and 145 additional caravans (clearly a stepping stone to the original planning application for 182) is too many.”

Planning officers have recommended the scheme for approval, saying it “would provide enhanced leisure facilities through an albeit smaller golf course and provide access to the countryside enhancing health and wellbeing and access to the countryside”.

Three bungalows in Littleton

Also up before the committee are plans to build up to three bungalows off Arrow Lane in North Littleton.

Planning officers say the site was part of a larger scheme for 30 homes proposed back in 2012 but subsequently refused.

There have been objections, with concerns raised that the site is outside the village’s development boundary and around highway safety.

But there have also been comments that it is a sympathetic development and that more housing is needed. It has also been recommended for approval.

Finally, plans for 14 homes in Flyford Flavell are set to be decided.

The Lockley Homes scheme, which includes four affordable homes, is for land south of Radford Road and east of an existing Bovis Homes development.

No community consultation

Flyford Flavell, Grafton Flyford and North Piddle Parish Council has objected, saying there was no community consultation before the application was submitted and the site is not included in the latest version of the South Worcestershire Development Plan.

Dozens of residents have also objected, saying the proposal is for an unsustainable location with a lack of public transport and street lighting.

But officers say the proposal “represents well designed, appropriately proportioned, well connected sustainable development in a suitable location”.
