LIV Golf will be without one of its most popular faces the first two events of 2026.
Phil Mickelson announced Sunday on social media he would not play at next week’s opener in Riyadh or the following week in Adelaide, the league’s most successful and popular event. The six-time major champion said he and his wife, Amy, have a family matter to attend to.
“I can’t wait to compete again and look forward to rejoining my teammates as soon as possible,” Mickelson said in the statement.
Ollie Schniederjans will fill in for Mickelson at LIV Golf Riyadh, but the post didn’t mention whether the former No. 1 amateur would compete in Mickelson’s place at Adelaide.
Mickelson is captain of the HyFlyers team, which features Cameron Tringale, Brendan Steele and recent signee Michael La Sasso, the reigning NCAA individual champion. Last year, the HyFlyers finished fifth in the team standings.
