Freddy Schott won a thrilling Bahrain Championship after coming out on top in a three-way play-off against Patrick Reed and Calum Hill.
Schott, whose victory on Sunday was his first on the DP World Tour, started the day two shots behind leader Hill going into the last round but a rollercoaster final day eventually led to a play-off where Reed and Hill collapsed.
Reed was in the lead himself after a hat-trick of birdies on the back nine but a bogey on the 16th proved costly and he found the bunker off the tee in the first play-off hole.
The American, who announced last week he had left LIV Golf and returned to the PGA Tour, was unable to recover from the error as he bogeyed the hole while his play-off rivals made par.
More drama immediately followed though as Hill’s tee shot in the second extra hole veered left and out of bounds. He then found the water while Schott kept his nerve, so Hill conceded the hole – an unusual sight in a play-off – to hand 24-year-old Schott a breakthrough win.

“It’s just amazing. I haven’t realised anything at all yet. I’m just extremely happy, surprised. I don’t know what’s happening right now!” said Schott.
“I just stayed in the moment and hit the shots as best as I could. I’m speechless. I could have done it the regular way but doing it this way is even more special.”
