GUADALAJARA, Mexico – The NC State women’s golf team battled back to finish sixth at the Collegiate Invitational at Guadalajara Country Club presented by Babygrande Golf. NC State finished with a 25-over 889 (301-295-293), improving its score round by round.
NC State saw two players finish in the top 20 with Marie Eline Madsen in ninth and Vania Simont in a tie for 19th.
Round 1
NC State shot a 13-over 301 in the first round to start out play in 11th place. Madsen carded a 2-under 70 with three birdies, 14 pars and just one bogey in round one. Ellie Hildreth followed with a 4-over 76 and Lindsay McGrath carded a 5-over 75. Simont shot a 6-over 78, finishing her round with a birdie. Lea Ludwig carded a 7-over 79.
Round 2
The Pack finished the round strong with six birdies across the board in the final four holes of the round to finish with a 7-over 295. Simont had a solid round with an even-par 72 with three birdies, 13 pars, one bogey and one double bogey. Hildreth also had an even-par round for her second round at par or better the season, logging four birdies, 10 pars and four bogeys. Madsen turned around with a 35 on the back nine after a 39 on the front to log a 2-over 74. McGrath was the fourth score that counted with a 5-over 77. Ludwig tallied a 7-over 79. NC State jumped up to finish the round in a tie for sixth.
Round 3
NC State finished the tournament strong with a 5-over 293 in the third round. Madsen led the Pack with her 10th round at par or better this season behind a 1-under 71 with four birdies. She finished the tournament with her fourth 10th place finish this season with a 1-under 215 (70-74-71) for ninth. Simont also logged a 1-under 71, doing so with a near clear card with two birdies, 15 pars and one bogey for her fourth round at par or better this season. She logged her third top 20 finish of the season with 19th place and a 5-over 221 (78-72-71).
McGrath carded a 3-over 75 to log a 13-over 229 (77-77-75) to tie for 40th. Ludwig followed with a 4-over 76 to round out the tournament with 52nd behind an 18-over 234 (79-78-76). Hildreth had an 8-over 80 in the third round, finishing as the third highest Pack player in the tournament with a 12-over 228 (76-72-80).
NC State was solid on par 4s throughout the week, finishing with the third best average (4.22), while also logging the third most pars (171) in the field.
