The Southern Illinois University women’s golf team is set to open its 2026 spring season tomorrow at the Advance Golf Partners Collegiate Competition in Palm City, Florida, marking the first competitive action of the new semester. Their last action was in at the Powercat Invitational in October.
Here is how the Saluki golfers fared:
Head Coach Sam Sambursky hit on several key items when it came to what her team would focus on over the winter.
“We will prioritize short game and fundamentals, because you can never work on these enough no matter the level,” she said. “We will hit the weight room more this off season.”
Now is the team’s chance to show how that development looks. After some months of preparation, the Salukis will look to carry momentum and development into a strong start against a competitive field on a course that traditionally rewards consistency and discipline.
SIU’s lineup for the event features Kayla Sayyalinh, Ella Overstreet, Calli Smith, Amelia Zingler, Allie Santos, and Hannia Cedano Gastelum. Sayyalinh and Overstreet bring experience and leadership to the top of the lineup, while Smith and Zingler provide steady scoring potential in the middle. Santos and Cedano Gastelum round out the roster, adding depth and the ability to post low rounds as the tournament progresses.
“Our team is excited to begin the 2026 spring season in Florida, and we’re ready to take the work we’ve put in during the offseason and translate it into competition,” Head Coach Sam Sambursky said. With a balanced lineup and renewed focus heading into the spring, the Salukis aim to set the tone early and build confidence as they begin the next phase of their season at the Advance Golf Partners Collegiate Competition.
