A bombshell update reported on social media could mark a major turning point in golf’s ongoing divide.

According to Flushing It, the DP World Tour is preparing to drop fines for its members who compete on the LIV Golf League from the 2026 season onwards.

While any fines issued through the end of the 2025 season will still need to be settled, the reported change signals a significant softening of the DP World Tour’s previously strict stance on LIV Golf participation.

The decision on dropping fines and granting releases will mean more LIV Golf players who remain DP World Tour members will be able to compete in DP World Tour events when it best fits their schedules.

But in an addition to the latest update, the DP World Tour will nominate tournaments that players must compete in.

All LIV Golf players are contracted to play all of the league’s 14 tournaments in 2026.

LIV Golf’s 2026 campaign gets underway in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, this coming week.

The latest news will be particularly welcome for LIV Golf superstars Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton, both of whom remain DP World Tour members and are currently embroiled in legal battles over sanctions imposed for playing in LIV Golf events.

Rahm recently confirmed his DP World Tour fines through 2025 have exceeded $3 million.

If Flushing It’s account proves accurate then no further fines will be issued from 2026.

While this could relieve pressure on certain players like Rahm and Hatton, the outcome of their appeals remains critical. Should they lose and choose not to settle their fines then they would forfeit their DP World Tour membership and become ineligible for Ryder Cup selection.

“All existing fines up until the end of 2025 will need to be settled, but releases will be granted to all members who apply for competing LIV Golf League events in 2026.

“In addition, the DP World Tour has the right to nominate events players must commit to.”

The latest update comes in the same week that a decision on LIV Golf’s OWGR status is expected to be made.

Should DP World Tour fines be dropped as now expected then it could signal a new era in professional golf, offering players more flexibility and potentially easing tensions between the DP World Tour and LIV Golf.
