Was gifted a set of these 3-9 irons (been using for a few months, new golfer) and have been contemplating if these are hindering my progression… opinions?

I go back to these from time to time. Great clubs.

An all time classic . They should modernize them and re release them

Been thinking of buying a set of these for a while

  4. They’re players cavity backs. Not super forgiving. Great clubs. I played them in high school.

Swap them for something more forgiving if you can.

    Cool set of classic clubs!

Whenever you’re first starting out, the main goal is just to hit the club face consistently. If you hit off the toe, fat shots, thin shots, it doesn’t matter if you’re using a hammer or a garden shovel.

So don’t worry too much about the tech in the clubs. If you hit the middle of the face you’ll see a massive difference from a mishit shot. Almost like magic the way the ball jumps!

Once you’re getting more consistently with your contact, go in for a fitting and find a set you hit well and are excited about.

    Golf rules!

You are not missing out. These are perimeter weighted cavity back, thicker soled irons. Just like modern irons.

These are perfect to start with. Make sure the grips are good and you are good to go.

I gamed these for a decade on and off with MP14s, to this day probably the best cast CB set ever made….

I was carrying a 2 iron in my bag up until last season when I replaced my entire bag. That was not a very forgiving club.

If they generally fit your specs, they’re fine. If you’re 5’6” and these clubs were built for someone 6’4” then it might be an issue. If you’re strong and a former hockey player and these have graphite senior flex shafts, it will be an issue. But if the length/lie generally match your height, the shaft weight/flex is close to what you need and the grips are fresh and about the right size, then these are just fine.
