Puerto Rico Classic

The UNT women’s golf team is traveling to the Caribbean to compete at the Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande beginning Feb. 1. The tournament is hosted by Purdue.
THE EVENT: Grand Reserve Golf Course will play as a par-72 course at 6,305 yards. Due to impending weather, the teams are scheduled to play 36 holes on Sunday and if the weather allows they will aim to get 18 holes in on Monday. Sunday the teams will have a 5:30 a.m. CT (7:30 a.m. local time) shotgun start. Monday the teams will resume play at 6:30 a.m. CT for the final round.
THE FIELD: There are 18 teams participating in the tournament, including nine teams ranked in the top 50 nationally and five teams ranked in the top 20 nationally: No. 4 Arkansas, Furman, Georgia Southern, Iowa, No. 29 Iowa State, No. 26 Kansas State, No. 33 LSU, Minnesota, No. 44 Michigan, No. 14 North Carolina, North Florida, North Texas, No. 20 Northwestern, No. 15 Ole Miss, Purdue (host), UNCW and No. 10 Vanderbilt.
REPRESENTING UNT: Competing for the Mean Green will be Mason Lewis, Marin Fujiyasu, Bouquet Subsomboon, Malisone Chanthapanya and Mallorie Luitwieler

LAST TIME OUT: UNT opened the spring on Jan. 19 with a one-stroke dual victory over Houston Christian at the Golf Club of Houston. Bouquet Subsomboon led the way as she shot five-under over the 72 holes.
DURING THE FALL: North Texas had a successful fall semester where they had top three finishes at the Sam Golden Collegiate Invitational (second) and the Bear Brawl (third). Also Malison Chanthapanya broke the program record for the best single round 18-hole score as she shot a 64 to wrap up the Jim West Challenge at the Kissing Tree Golf Club in San Marcos. Chanthapanya placed second overall on the individual leaderboard for her career best finish. She was one shot off the tournament champion.
UP NEXT: After the Puerto Rico Classic the Mean Green head to Houston on Feb. 23 for the Chevron Collegiate in Humble, Texas.
