MORRILL – Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) honored the sophomores of the Lancer golf teams on Saturday, January 24, recognizing their contributions to the program and celebrating continued team success.
The ceremony also included the raising of the Region and West District championship banner.
The evening highlighted the achievements of this year’s sophomore class, which played a key role in establishing records and championships for the golf program.
“I’m so proud and thankful for all the sophomores on the team,” coach Zach Smith said. “The girls took a leap of faith by committing to EWC last year to start the program and I’ll forever be grateful for their trust in EWC and myself to get the program started. I’m excited to work with both squads one last semester, and I know they’ll all go on to do great things after their graduation in May.”
Smith said the banner-raising ceremony was a fitting tribute to a team that helped define the program’s early success.
“Last year’s team was a part of setting several team records for the program, so it was great to honor their accomplishment on Saturday,” Smith said. “The team worked hard all year, which was rewarded in May with another Region and West District championship. I really miss being around last year’s sophomores, but I’m so happy for them and all the great things they are doing moving forward. We are currently hard at work trying to bring home another championship this spring.”
Sophomores honored on the men’s team included Freddie Dancox, Jamie Lambert and Josh Lane. Sophomores on the women’s team included Jessica Applegarth, Ellian Irick, Georgie Paterakis, Bailey Watson and Quinlann Yeager.
The Lancer Golf Teams will continue competition this spring in pursuit of another regional and district title.
