In This Video, You’ll Discover:
•How to release the golf club with proper timing using the revolutionary YMCA drill (Y Must Come After) that reshapes your impact position
•The exact crossover drill that teaches natural arm rotation and hands in golf swing coordination – watch the right arm cross over the left at parallel for square contact
•Why arms in golf swing mechanics matter more than body rotation for squaring the club face (Ben Hogan’s secret revealed)
•Three distinct release positions for draws, fades, and straight shots using simple clock references
•The hitchhiker finish position that keeps your release on plane and prevents the dreaded “Spider-Man wrists” block
•Golf drills you can practice with feet together or trail foot back to isolate proper hand and arm action
•Driver vs iron release timing differences – why “Y must come after” works for irons but drivers need release AT the ball
Eric Cogorno and special guest instructor Greg Jones break down the complete release system used by PGA Tour players. This isn’t just theory – you’ll get three specific golf drills (YMCA, Crossover, Hitchhiker) that you can practice immediately on the range. Whether you’re fighting a slice, struggling with thin shots, or simply want to compress your irons like the pros, mastering the golf swing release is your breakthrough.
Greg Jones explains why the club “wants to release if you let it” – the toe naturally wants to pass the heel because of how golf clubs are designed. Your job is to stop fighting it and start coordinating the proper timing and squaring action through your hands in golf swing motion.
Ready to transform your ball striking? Learn how to play golf with a professional release pattern. Try the trail foot back drill today and feel what it’s like when your arms in golf swing finally work in harmony with the club’s natural design.

YMCA.. simple swing thought but genius concept
Great stuff fellas.
Like this, how does this teaching point dove tail with the extension follow through "shake hands with the target" getting both arms fully extended…….the timing of each so to speak on the follow through side of the swing…..?
Here’s my comment down below: I guess there are many ways to do it!
I’m a Mac O’Grady/Early MORAD guy and I disagree with Mr. Jones’s concept of the crossover release. Additionally, I disagree that the Y is formed at the ball with the driver. Yes, the lead arm and shaft form a straight line at impact, but that’s not the Y (well, it may be a capital Y!).
The Y should be established at P7.5 (the midpoint between impact, P7, and club shaft parallel, P8) where the butt end of the shaft is at its maximum distance from the sternum.
Regarding release, at P8, the hands/wrists should cock upwards, moving the shaft vertical as the elbows fold toward the shoulders. The crossover release moves the shaft too horizontal and forces the trail shoulder to pop up, causing you to lose your second tilt (what many call posture), lose your shoulder plane, and you end up flopping your shoulders and torso all around which leads to inconsistent ball-striking.
Like I said, many ways to do it. By the way, the crossover release contradicts with the “window of success” guy (cannot remember his name) that you had on your channel that really I liked!
Anyway, Eric, thanks for having on all sorts of guys and ideas for us to sift though, reflect upon, and try out. 👊👊
I am one of those who hang on (ugh). I love this video!! It's going to be something I will work on!! thank you so much!!!
I JUST DON'T SEE THE POINT of sacrificing reliablity just to gain a few yards…..i don't crossover until I'm wrapping the club behind my neck.
