That’s the Hogan Move Right There: Johnny Miller #golf #johnnymiller
Johnny Miller explains how most amateurs generate power the wrong way and shows a simple drill on developing a proper weight shift while trapping the ball for compression.
This is probably the best lesson I've ever watched, and I've watched over a thousand of them. The lower I get, the more I feel the impact, and the better I compress the ball.
My best ball striking happens when I feel my chest pressing down over the ball. That means my hips have stayed back to keep the balance. That means the hands have an inside path to the ball and are low.
What non-physics geek golfers (guys like me and Bryson) do not understand on an INTELLECTUAL level how is KINETIC ENERGY is created and transmitted to the MASS in the club and then transferred into the ball and the role the CLUB FACE had in CHANGING THE KINETIC ENERGY FORCE VECTOR from downward at a 45° angle towards the LEAD FOOT to compress the ball.
It is the compression of the ball and its release > ….° from the face which CHANGES THE FORCE VECTOR the more you swing LEAD ARM MASS DOWN at your front foot with BODY MASS FALLING TOWARD EARTH (due to gravity) behind it, the higher and farther the ball will fly.
Every golfer who reaches the pro rank develops a non-intellectual INTUITIVE understanding of the underlying cause and effect via trial and error experimentation (Hogan / Snead / Nelson/Me minus the athletic ability) Hogan with the help golf writer Hebert Warren Wind and brilliant cut away illustrations of muscles in action by Raveilli was able to, for the first time in golf instruction give intellectually intuitive golfer who are not intuitive athletically a “connect the dots” blueprint of how to build a pro level golf swing and via those drawings of which muscles are stretched and where pressure should be felt in which fingers A CLUE WHAT A PRO LEVEL golf swing actually feels like — what Miller is describing in this video in a HOW YOU DO IT way which doesn’t explain WHY it needs to be don that way to achieve the GOALS of 1) balanced swing, and 2) enough KE in the club head at impact to FULLY COMPRESS A GOLF BALL.
Recreational golfers would hit much better shots if using balls with compression that matched their slower club head speed / much lower KE at impact the those balls would not go as far as the occasionally perfectly balanced strike of the ball.
It is not difficult to fully compress a Pro V1 the face of an iron. I’m still doing at age 74 because I am still wearing the same size pants as I was in high school 32” waist and weight the same after losing about 30 pounds and 2” at the waist.
I’ve been shaping shots since learning how to do it from Nicklaus in 1987 by reading his book Golf My Way. That and his retrospective “My Golden Lessons” are books all serious golfers would learn a lot from by reading. Last year I got an Eagle on a hole by putting 20 yards of Draw ⛳️ ) / spin on the ball to a right -left green with pin at the back, landing front right on the green and watching it kick left as planned then roll 50’ into the hole 😊 The best part of that was one of my playing partners telling me while lining up the shot way right of the green, “Do you know you are aiming directly at that house?” I replied, “Hold my 🍺” 😂 Now they call me “The Shaper”
All of those positions are results of pressure and tilt created early Hogan didn't try to do any of these things they were earned in the backswing set up , the trail shoulder goes down and and his arms body respond to the pressure and tilts , if you actively try to clear or get wrist positions ultimately your body will stall and you will flip it anyway

Hacker time deh neh neh neh
Whatever happened to that smokeshow Gulbis???
Amazing impact and weight shift video
Amazing how many sales people "teaching" golf are advocating for the flip release he says to avoid.

Johnny Miller…..once a douche, always a douche
Clear the hips and left side and you will stay low.

In his prime, Miller was the best mid-iron ball striker I’ve ever seen.

One of the greatest ever, esp a tall man in his era, equipment etc

Great info from a great golfer, and a great guy! To make this game so simple, shows how amazing a player Johnnie Miller is! Thanks for this video.😊
Great tip😊
Wow, that makes total sense.
Great lesson
Looks like Pauma Valley CC
