0:00 – What to do once you reach the top of the backswing 🧩
0:49 – Why transition timing is so hard (it happens fast) ⏱️
1:26 – The #1 fix: delay shoulder unwinding to stop the club getting “out in front” 🚫
2:25 – The feel: let the arms/club lower with gravity while pressure shifts forward 🎯
3:26 – Squeaky-ball drill: pressure shift before rotation (hear the squeak) 🐶
5:26 – Rehearsal + hitting shots using “top, squeak, and lower” 🏌️‍♂️
6:07 – Step drill (baseball drill): step as you finish the backswing ⚾
7:22 – Common mistake: stepping late (awkward timing) + how to train it ✅

This video breaks down the correct downswing sequence by focusing on timing: shift pressure forward and let your arms lower before you rotate hard. You’ll get two go-to drills—the squeaky-ball cue and a step transition drill—to help you start downswing more athletic and strike it cleaner.

What you’ll learn
• The biggest transition mistake: unwinding the shoulders too early
• How to start downswing by pairing pressure shift + arm “lowering” together
• A simple cue to feel the club drop without pulling down or steepening
• The squeaky-ball drill to confirm your weight shift happens before rotation
• The step (baseball) drill to train the correct downswing sequence timing

  1. Took me 4 years to learn this move and still working on it however this is an excellent video. Was a slicer for 33 years and could never understand why. Love your channel and your no nonsense approach to explaining things. Thanks for a great video

  2. Great lesson, hope you are somewhere warm, we are freezing in southern Ohio, Thanks again. Do you give personal lesson in person or just online?

  3. My question is since you have to shift weight forward and drop the club while chest is closed, why not stay on front foot as you rotate in backswing ? This way you just need to drop the club and then rotate in such a short time.

  4. Thanks for excellent instruction. You put the words on what I've been struggeling with for 40 years in just a few minutes.

  5. Excellent video! This may be the best explanation of the downswing sequence that I have ever seen. Most videos focus on either the lateral shift or dropping (or pulling down) the arms but I love the way this video shows how they happen simultaneously and drills to practice that. Well done!

  6. Fabulous I have never hit the ball so consistently since putting your advice into practice.
    Distance also increased.
    Thank you
