The PGA Tour heads to the weekend without a cut yet. But that’s all by design as this week’s American Express features a Saturday 54-hole cut.

The 156-man field at the AmEx uses three golf courses with everyone playing each of them once over the first three days: Pete Dye Stadium Course at PGA West, Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course at PGA West and La Quinta Country Club. Then, those who make the cut converge on the Stadium Course for Sunday’s final round.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler went to bed last night tied for the lead but is already two shots back as he gets his third round underway at the 2026 American Express, as 18-year-old Blades Brown reached 19 under just after 1:30 p.m. Scheffler, who’s seeking his 20th PGA Tour victory this week, made par on No. 1 at the Pete Dye Stadium Course to remain in solo third at 17 under.

Ludvig Aberg has withdrawn from the American Express. The 26-year-old from Sweden shot rounds of 68 and 67 over the first two days and seem poised to make a run at the cut line, but bowed out due to an illness early Saturday. Ranked No. 18 in the world, Aberg is a two-time winner on the PGA Tour and was a member of the victorious European Ryder Cup Team at Bethpage Black in September. This was his first start of the 2026 season.

Not even 24 hours removed from breaking the course record on the Nicklaus Tournament Course, 18-year-old Blades Brown has taken the solo lead at the American Express just after 1:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.

The young prodigy from Nashville is playing his seventh straight day of competitive golf after finishing T-17 at the Korn Ferry Tour’s Bahamas Great Abaco Classic on Wednesday. He took a red-eye to Palm Springs and has found himself contending with the best players in the world on the biggest stage. Impressive stuff from the recent high school graduate.

About half the groups are on the golf course(s) as of 12:30 p.m. ET and there’s already another player tied for the lead. Eric Cole started on the back nine at La Quinta Country Club and joined Blades Brown and Scottie Scheffler at 17 under after making three straight birdies on holes 11-13.
