The Brenham Cub golf team tested itself against quality competition and challenging golf courses on Monday and Tuesday in the Aggie Cup in Bryan and College Station.

Brenham finished 15th of 16 teams in a competitive field of Class 5A and 6A schools with a team score of 693 across two days at the Traditions Club at Texas A&M and the Miramont Country Club in Bryan.

The first round of the Aggie Cup was contested at the Traditions Club on Monday before moving to the Miramont Country Club. The Cubs finished with a team score of 367 in the first round before seeing improvement at Miramont with a team score of 328.

Brenham competed against 10 Class 6A teams and five Class 5A teams, including district opponents A&M Consolidated and College Station.

Sophomore Luke Alford scored a top-50 finish at the Aggie Cup, finishing with a 13-over par tournament for a 45th-place ranking. He shot the best round among the Cubs in both days of the event, starting with a 8-over par round of 80 on Monday at Traditions. Alford shot a 5-over round of 77 at Miramont on Tuesday.

Alford’s opening round put him in 37th place. His second round at Miramont was 43rd among a field that saw 21 golfers finish with an even-par round of 72 or better.

The rest of the Cubs struggled at Traditions on Monday before seeing their scores improve by at least eight strokes at Miramont on Tuesday.

Sophomore Holton Gillentine finished second among the Cubs and 69th overall with a two-round score of 174. He shot a 19-over-par round of 91 at Traditions before improving to a round of 83 at Miramont.

Junior Caleb Klussmann’s second-round score of 81 at Miramont saw him surge to 74th place with a two-round score of 180. He improved by 18 strokes from his first-round score of 99 at Traditions.

Senior Levi DuPont and freshman Max Felder also cracked the top 80 of an 87-player field after improvements in the second round. DuPont shot a 14-over-par round of 86 at Miramont on Tuesday to follow his round of 97 at Traditions the previous day. He finished in 77th place with a two-day score of 183.

Felder, meanwhile, secured a second-round score of 85 for a 17-stroke improvement from his first round. He finished in 80th place with a two-day score of 183.

Siemsglusz shot a 15-over-par round of 87 on Tuesday for a 14-stroke improvement from Monday’s round of 101 at Traditions. He finished in 81st place with a two-day total of 188.

The Brenham Cubs will host the Friends of Golf Fundraiser alongside the Cubette golf team on Sunday, Feb. 1, before continuing their season on Feb. 6-7, at Texas A&M’s Campus Course.
