Golf rules explained, common golf rule mistakes, and penalty area relief — this video breaks down the top 10 golf rules almost every golfer gets wrong, so you can avoid penalties and play with confidence.
Think you know the Rules of Golf? Most golfers don’t. Even experienced players routinely misapply basic rules—penalty relief, provisional balls, bunker restrictions, embedded ball relief, and more. These mistakes lead to unnecessary strokes and awkward arguments on the course.
In this video, we clear up the 10 rules golfers misunderstand most, including:
• Grounding your club in penalty areas (yes, it’s allowed)
• What to do when wind or animals move your ball
• Accidentally moving your ball on the green
• Sprinkler head relief (and what actually counts as interference)
• The correct provisional ball procedure
• Unplayable bunker options, including the 2-stroke escape
• Embedded ball relief anywhere in the general area
• Touching your line of putt under the modern rules
• Natural forces vs. after-stroke movement
• Proper red & yellow penalty area relief
These rules changed significantly in 2017 and 2019, and most golfers are still playing by outdated versions. This quick breakdown will save you strokes, speed up play, and eliminate confusion in your group.

I don't recall a rule saying you have to submit EVERY possible round. I don't think this is correct.
This would drive handicaps up and cause crazy Stapleford points.
I think casual rounds were added for those wishing to keep an up to date handicap but perhaps couldn't conmit to competitions typically played at the weekend.
