Was struggling with my bunker game and remembered a drill I did with my coach in college. It always seems to get my bunker game right back on track so thought I’d share

the last time I watched this i thought about breaking the tee under the ball and hit some fire bunker shots. and then IDK what happened. I had to go back to my old ways lol. need good sand.

How does that help a plugged ball?

Yeah that’s what most amateurs need, to get used to teeing up their bunker shots…

instructions unclear, kicked off course for teeing it up on a Par 5 bunker

I much prefer the drill where like 5 men just swipe the sand back and forth while walking single file in a line.

Yes, we used to put a board under the sand about 2” and hit shots. Same effect but you actually get to hit real sand shots to practice. The only problem here is the drill has no resistance. People gotta feel how that release feels with resistance from the sand.

People don’t know how to use the bounce. These drills help them feel it being applied

Wish I played courses with consistently good sand like that. On courses I play, I’ll get one good bunker with fluffy dry sand (decent shot) then one with what looks like good sand but actually is wet underneath (skull), then one with obviously wet sand (switch to pw & pray), then back to fluffy but not raked so ball just in front of a rut (swing harder to get through the rut but who knows where this is going) …. I can’t practice all these different types of shots. That doesn’t even begin to address fairway bunkers (ball first contact). I do my best to avoid bunkers

One rando told me one time when I was struggling to imagine that you are hitting the ball with the back of the club face.

I thought that was moronic until I envisioned it and I’ve never been stuck in a bunker since.
