Tiger Woods and his son, Charlie, thankfully were able to share a laugh after an on-course incident that could have been much worse.

Charlie Woods was competing in the Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship when he was forced to duck and cover after a golf ball nearly hit him in the face.

During the 11th hole of the first round at the Biltmore Golf Course in Coral Gables, Fla., on Saturday, Charlie hit a shot under a tree, requiring a tricky escape.

However, as Tiger Woods and mother Elin Nordegren looked on, Charlie hit his recovery shot which then rebounded off a root and came right back at him, according to the Palm Beach Post.

The ball nearly struck him as the 16-year-old prodigy dropped his club and covered his face.

While it was a scary moment, Woods recovered on the hole, making it onto the green and then sealing a nice putt to save par.

Afterwards, Tiger joked with Charlie about the incident, saying it was a “hell of a shot,” according to the outlet.

How is Charlie Woods doing?

Through Sunday’s second round, Charlie Woods was sitting in a tie for 22nd place after shooting 3-over. He had opened his first round with two straight birdies.

The teen is aiming to repeat his father’s success at the tournament after Tiger won the event in 1991.

Heading into the Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship, Charlie was 13th in the American Junior Golf Association rankings and had been named a first-team All-American.

He also helped the Benjamin School win another state team championship in November.

Tiger wasn’t the only proud golf star father taking in the event.

PGA Tour veteran Matt Kuchar, who won last month’s PNC Championship, was on hand to watch his son, Cameron Kuchar, compete in Florida.
