Here’s what I’m thinking: if I go with the open setup, I’d use tarps to enclose the sides and probably build a small platform to hit from since it’ll be on grass. I may not even need the cage, but it could be a good idea.
I’m also considering a version that comes already enclosed. Would love to hear input from anyone who’s gone a similar route.

If you have any ambient light you will need a better projector 2500 ansi lumens is the minimum
R10 isn’t the play. If that’s your price range, I Would go with a used OG Skytrak before that
I use one of these

For me it’s a temporary build. I will have to take it down for the summer as it takes up too much of my space in the garden where the kids play during summer.
Here is i picture of the inside. I would have done much more out of it if it wasnt temporary, but it gets the job done

I have an outdoor sim with a 3600
lumen projector and during the day it needs a lot of material to darken the area…which I don’t have yet. Basically at dusk it works, but earlier is tough. The white material of these canopies (which I have now) stay really bright inside if any sunlight is hitting it) This spring I’m building a new pergola for the sim and it will use a lot of curtains (thinking marine carpet right now) on the walls (latticework on the wall on the exterior, but will need something on the inside).
For about a year I was hitting into a net and just looking over at a laptop screen to see the result. For me that was a great start and I could play any time of the day. But for a full projector based system you need to think a lot about light.
Lots of resourceful golfers on here that have done what you’re planning.

I have the same cage and use a R10. It’s pretty good but even with RCT balls it under reads my misses by a bit.

Built mine out of wood and did a patio. 20ft long, 12ft high, 15ft wide. Used sun shades for the sides but we regularly get 50 to 60mph winds and they didnt make it a full season so going to frame the sides and side it in. Works well though for a sim.
If you’re going enclosed why not go with the Square?
I’m one of those folks lucky enough to own both an R10 and a Square – I had to use a Square for an indoor golf sim because my shed is 10 ft x 12 ft.
I got an R10 for trying to just speed train a bit and really swing my driver without fear of the ball bouncing back on me outside. I also use it at a range near me because they have no top tracer or tracing tech there. They are super old school with no tracking technology. I had a hard time following my ball and couldn’t just how far I carried it.
I tell you all this just for some perspective here and how maybe having both may not be so bad if you transition back to outdoor practice after the winter.
