What advantage does ND get by not playing in a conference championship??? ND can never be higher than a 5 seed and can’t get a bye .. and NO OTHER TEAM THAT PLAYS IN A CONF CHAMPIONSHIP CAN BE ELIMINATED IF THEY LOSE ?? So what are they talking about?? . There is not a single legitimate argument that can made for putting Notre Dame in the playoff. The playoff committee needs to tell Notre Dame point blank that if you don't play a legitimate schedule, you will never be in the playoffs.

HOW ON EARTH can you call a "Conference Championship" an advantage when Alabama lost by 21 and didn't even fall one position, but if they won they clinched and would have moved way up. Miami didn't even MAKE their Conference game and lost to TWO conference teams who ALSO didn't make it. Spare us your Conference crap.

The controversy isn't (or shouldn't be) between Miami and Notre Dame; it's between Notre Dame and Alabama. If Notre Dame shouldn't "benefit" from not having to play in a conference championship (the flip side of that coin is they also can never build their case for being selected by winning a conference championship), Alabama shouldn't benefit from getting demolished in its conference championship. If conference championships are to have any meaning in relation to being selected, teams who play in those games have to take the good with the bad. There should be consequences to losing those games as badly as Alabama did. That seemed to be the case with BYU''s exclusion after it lost the Big 12 Championship by a margin similar to the margin by which Alabama lost the SEC Championship — and that was only BYU's 2nd loss of the season (both losses to Texas Tech). Alabama should have suffered the same fate.

Do not just send a message to ND for not playing in a conference Championship: send messages to all of those SEC and Big 10 teams that did not play in a conference championship. Every team in the SEC team is entitled to the best of both worlds. What are the odds that no SEC or Big 10 team makes to the finals. When nine teams from two conferences, how is this fair to other conferences. The is clear: if you want to make the playoff, join the SEC or Big 10.

typing this as oregon is beating jmu 27-3 halfway thru the 2nd qtr and just earlier tulane got absolutly smoked by ole miss 41-10. miami won by 3 but theres no way these 2 games should have been played. vandy and nd should have been in and u really think the CFP committe owes every college football fan an apology and a promise to fix this trash

The whole thing is stupid. I’m going to say what nobody wants to say. Top 12 teams in. Everyone arguing conferences matter but Duke isn’t in the playoffs. So how important is a conference championship if the conference champion isn’t in the playoffs? So it mattered to get James Madison & Tulane in, but not Duke? And for everyone who supports the ACC know that they are full of shit as well. A Virginia/North Carolina game didn’t count as conference game because of a rivalry. Moving forward FSU/Miami games should never count as well. If I was either one of them schools as well. So again this conference conversation has to end. No James Madison/Tulane and maybe Alabama at 12 with the 3 losses. BYU at 11, Notre Dame and Miami however at 9 & 10 and that James Madison/Tulane have there asses at home with Duke. Everyone arguing conferences matter, conference championships matter and the ACC champion is at home!!! Make that shit make sense!!! And if people wanna really argue really stand on business and keep Tulane/James Madison in, add the ACC champion Duke & then add BYU. No Alabama, Miami, Notre Dame, all together. Because that is actually what they should’ve done since Tulane & James Madison got in. So everyone just gotta stop with the conferences being so important when this is now twice that an ACC champion has not been in the playoffs.
