ORRINGTON, Maine (WABI) – For some, it might be painful to watch your set of golf clubs go untouched throughout the winter.

While the current conditions outside may not be screaming “polo weather,” that didn’t stop Rocky Knoll Country Club in Orrington from opening for their 2026 season Friday.

Staff say there’s plenty of offerings as they wait for fairways to thaw.

“We have a full restaurant, full bar,” describes superintendent Nick Lawson. “Darts, of course, for one in the wintertime. And we have two simulators downstairs that we’re pushing for $20 an hour this year, which is one of the cheapest around.”

With these golf simulators, tee time is anytime.

While club and ball rentals are available, Lawson says folks can bring their own, making year-round use par for the course.

“I think after the holidays, they get a little busier, so we’re hoping for a good year,” Lawson comments on the simulator’s popularity.

Promoting projects like their flagpole fundraiser, mug club, and Friday night dart league, Lawson says the cold months are a great time to strengthen community connections: “We like the community, and if we can keep it going and make a little bit here and there, then that’s what we’re going to do.”

Rocky Knoll Country Club is open Friday through Sunday.
