The Sword of Achievement is annually the crown of all series titles at Sudbrook Moor Golf Club.

It is a long road of monthly strokeplay qualifiers, creating an Order of Merit, with a running scoreboard that is keenly sought after.

More than 100 members watch out for the accumulation of each player’s six best scores in the designated competitions and, generally, the lead names come and go as the season progresses.

Andy Dunderdale is the worthy 2025 champion having kept up the pressure from a strong start in the spring and added those vital top scores late in the season to clinch the title.

This Major rounds off Andy’s spectacular competitive year which is to be congratulated.

As a calendar event over the entire history of Sudbrook Moor, nearing 40 years, it is a true club success, with all ages and handicaps involved, and all welcome.

There were highlights for individuals along the way.

Liam Cornes led in the bleak weather of the early stages with Karren Dearlove climbing rapidly to take over with her superb summer scores and looking unbeatable at the mid-stage.

Ubiquitous Andy Newman was hovering and as determined as ever to capture the title while Gerry Dunphy played consistently and added late good scores.

Kevin Turner started to show his worth into the autumn with his winning score returned in the October qualifier and was definitely in contention.

Eventual runner-up, Dee Harrison, was well positioned to clinch The Sword, with one competition to play, but Dunderdale came home with his final scorecard to increase the gap at the top and claim his triumph.
